CONSTRUCTION NEWS

Making hay while the Son shines

This winter Covenant Point has found itself extremely busy with building projects. Thanks to gifts from generous supporters of camp and God's continual providing, four important projects have been made possible; a brand new Canoe Building and Meeting Space on the west side of the point, a High Ropes Challenge Course in the "Back Forty," the renovating of the Log Home, and the re-siding and insulating of Maple Lodge.

This continues an exciting trend of building projects over the last several years, which has included the construction of Tamarack Lodge, the entryway addition to the Tabernacle, the expansion of the Dining Hall Kitchen, and last years' construction of the Nature Center among others. These improved facilities enable increased programming possibilities at camp and, above all, better equip camp to present the life changing news of the Gospel to more visitors.

Thank you to all the faithful supporters of camp who make these things possible in your gifts and prayers!

Lindstrom's Landing

A Meeting Space and Canoe Storage Building is currently under construction!! The building will be named Lindstrom's Landing, to remember Charles and Jennie Lindstrom whose farm occupied the present site of Covenant Point. Located to the northwest of the old A-frame that was demolished last May, the building will have an excellent view of the bay, and will truly be an easy access "landing" for all sorts of boating activities on the west side of the Point.

On the lower level, the building will have a garage door that opens up to a storage space for canoes. On the top level, there will be a multi-purpose room for meetings and activities.

As with the construction of the nature building last winter, the walls of this structure are poured concrete encased in insulated styrofoam forms. This method provides the building with added strength and increased heating efficiency.

"The Landing" is being constructed by Master Home Builders of Iron River, Michigan.

High Ropes Challenge Course

The New High Ropes Course is now complete!!!

Located in the "Back Forty" in the trees to the west of the Nature Center, the course will add an exciting new dynamic to our Mainland summer camp program.

The course was installed by Ropes Courses Incorporated (RCI), and is a "Track in Trail" model. 5 poles support the course, 3 poles being 2 levels high and 2 poles being 3 levels high for an overall course height of 48 feet. To ensure a safe climb up to the platforms, an autobelay is installed at the entrance. This course is the first of its kind to be constructed by RCI using the company's own dual cable tracking system.

We are excited for the summer to come so we can try it out!!

Log Home Spruce-Up

In order to accomodate the arrival of Austin & Kate Collins and their family to the camp staff, the Log Home has been renovated. A dormer has been added, which will expand the loft and the bathroom facilities upstairs. The second bathroom previously lacked a shower, and the added space in the loft will increase the possibilities for that room as well.

Maple Lodge Overhaul

Maple Lodge recently had all of its old cedar half-log siding replaced. During this process, Maple was insulated with styrofoam sheeting and received a much needed facelift. The lodge serves as a staff house during the summer and houses retreat guests during the winter. Guests this winter will appreciate a much cozier version of this favorite camp building.
