What's been happening at Agents of the Earth lately???

Pine Mountain Christian School came on May 20th for a full day at camp that included a trip to the bog, bird watching, fire building, shelter building, and many other activities and games.

 
Two classes of fourth graders from Forest Park Elementary came on May 19th for lessons in orienteering, stream sampling and velocity, shelter building, and fire building, as well as the time-honored "thicket game."
 

"Rockin' Robins"

May 7, 14, & 21 was a three part series called "Rockin' Robins," a program that teamed older adults with kindergarten and first grade students for lessons and activities about birds. Among the many activities on these three days, the students assembled their own bird feeders.

   

Lil' Earth Explorers!!

Also known as "Nature Camp" by it's enthusiastic participants.

Lil' Earth Explorers was a morning and afternoon program for four-year-olds that took place from May 10-13th. The explorers took part in bug collecting, bird watching, planting flowers, playing games like "Jays & Juncos" and "Camouflage," and an ongoing lesson on "Life in Meadows" that involved drawing a large mural as a group.

 

Goodman-Armstrong Creek Elementary School's 5th & 6th grade classes were at camp May 5-7. Their stay included lessons in bog habitats (above), weather, rivers, rock formation, shelter building, and night-time sensory awareness, among others. Activities included climbing the indoor rock wall, capture the flag, a camp trademark "insanity hike," and a four-mile bike ride.

   
March 19 finished off the three part series for 3rd-6th graders called "Out in Nature's Snowy Classroom." Participants got to go for a cross-country ski in the Ottowa National Forest ski trails adjacent to the camp and then became investigators as they deciphered animal tracks in the woods.
Feb. 19 was part two of "Out in Nature's Snowy Classroom." The day included learning about snowflakes as well as "Snowflake Bentley," who first started photographing them up close. The students also enjoyed ice fishing and skating in the relatively warm weather.
Jan 15. was the first day of "Out in Nature's Snowy Classroom." Among the activities was an up close look at ice crystals, as well as temperature measurements of snow banks to determine the insulating effect of a "blanket of snow." The participants also received snow shoeing lessons, and enjoyed human bowling down the camp sledding hill.
